Pam soon fell in love with a Scotsman, Robert Stanley Harris, known as Stan, who also worked in the Standard Bank in Nairobi. They were married on 17 May 1942 at a church in Parklands, with my mother as Maid of Honour, followed by a reception held on the lawn of my grandparents’ house in Muthaiga. In 1945 Pam and Stanley produced a daughter named Elaine who was educated at The Loreto Convent in Nairobi. In 1950 they had another daughter Claire who was educated in Scotland, and spent most holidays with my grandmother’s youngest sister Kitty and her family in Jedburgh.
